In the NCCJ Piedmont Triad Region, we focus on government, media, interfaith relations, workplace, education, youth leadership development and community building. These areas are addressed through many of the the programs, workshops and seminars listed below. Each of these programs are conducted on a "per-request" basis. If you are interested in any of them, please contact the NCCJ office.
High School Leadership Training
Several of the county's high schools invite NCCJ to present one day leadership workshops for both formal and informal student leaders. These workshops focus on helping young leaders understand how stereotypes, bias and bigotry impact negatively on their school and provide them with tools to develop their own student lead human relations efforts. NCCJ can tailor a program to the specific needs of the school if there are specific areas of concern that a school may have and would like to deal with. Many high schools, such as Northeast Guilford High School and Northwest Guilford High School conduct these forums every year.
Changing in the Middle

In partnership with Guilford County Schools, NCCJ launched Changing in the Middle, a series of activities designed to build more inclusive, respectful and safe middle school environments. Improving relations between races, ethnicities and cultures is being used as a key strategy to increase the likelihood of improved academic and social success for all students.
The program includes: 2 one-day human relations workshops, each for 35 students; 3 follow-up sessions; and a year-end ceremony to celebrate outstanding human relations projects.
Workplace Diversity Programs
In
order for people to function productively in the workplace, they must learn
to see their differences as assets, rather than as obstacles. Workshops
of the NCCJ, such as Workplace Diversity, Prejudice Reduction, Conflict
Resolution, and Cultural Awareness, are tailored to meet specific needs,
goals, and time frames of each organization or business. Awareness, skills,
and strategies are developed through small group discussions, videos, experiential
exercises, and personal reflection—drawing on the experiences and
perspectives of the participants. Workshops and seminars have been designed
and presented to educators, business people, community agencies, and commissions. Some recent clients include Guilford County Schools, Freeway Foods,
Inc., First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, Crumley and Associates, Clinton City Schools, the employees of the Guilford County District Courts and multiple Guilford County High Schools.
Different and the Same
Children from their early years, have a feeling about what is “fair”. They learn it on the playground, at home with their siblings and in the classroom. They also have a feeling about what is unfair when the settlement of disputes, the distribution of treats or privileges, or the meting out of punishments is inequitable. They may not use he word “justice”, but they know when it has and has not been served. Different and the Same is a video tape series aimed at children in grades 1-3. This video series is based on four principles that coincidentally form the acronym FAIR-fairness, awareness, inclusion and respect and serve as the primary goals of the program. These principles are also some of the basic ingredients of a just society which respects all people, their unique histories and their common humanity.
The Green Circle Program™
The Green Circle program helps prepare young children for living in an increasingly diverse world by promoting positive social attitudes and behavior. The emphasis of the program is on inclusion and on fostering a greater awareness and appreciation of racial, religious, ethnic, gender, and physical differences. Adult and teen volunteers are trained by the NCCJ staff to present Green Circle programs, which are available to local public and private primary schools.
